Once a mixed neighbourhood for working and living, it was subjected to urban redevelopment at the end of the 1970s and experienced bitter house fights. Today, Freiburg's only alternative quarter is located here in a very small space, sustainable shops next to old-established craft businesses, a lively creative scene with a still committed neighbourhood culture.
